Absolutely. I don't know anyone that really wants to pay taxes, but we should..and do, because we know it is for the greater good. It is generally far easier to do what we want then to do what we should do. Is it pure laziness that makes folks want this? Most of the time probably so because doing what we should do often requires such things as thought, honesty, and work. So yes, it's a rut, but it's also a human condition that we need to teach ourselves to overcome if we are to better ourselves.

Yes, pretty often. I think that this comes from generation to generation where most times parents didn't get to do what they felt they wanted to do and pass on the shoulds to the next generation. There is a lot of misguided information telling us what we should do. I think I've decided that it's really an emotional issue. People are trained to deny their emotions from a very early age and this leads people to either rebel or be compliant in by following the shoulds. Either path lead to unhappiness. The happiest person I've known had a phenomenal mother who was able to love her unconditionally and let her find her path in life. She is one of the happiest people I know and one who actually lives life fully. Very rare. She basically grew up without feeling guilty about putting her development as her highest priority. I think a lot of the shoulds come from people believing at an unconscious level that if they did what they should then they will be loved by their parents.
