If the item lists a sales tax, then you have to pay. If not, than no. Even if a seller charges sales tax, it may not apply to you. Sales tax is only charged to customers who live in the same state as the seller.

Barbara,

If you are buying true wholesale, you should have a Sales Tax exemption or resellers permit and are tax exempt. Otherwise, you are buying retail and are responsible for paying the applicable sales tax on the item(s). Well, the seller is responsible for collecting the sales tax and turning the money over to, and reporting it to the respective tax agency City, County, or State, whatever is applicable.

If you pay sales taxes, you may not need to report them, but check with the Dept.of Revenue in your state.

The buyer is responsible for the sales tax, just like always. When you buy something at Wal Mart, you pay the sales tax, not Wal Mart. Wal Mart just collects the tax and passed it on to the IRS.

Generally all taxes are paid for by the customers. Even if it were to be advertised that the sellers will absorp the taxes, I would imagine that the taxes are usually factored-in when they do their costing.
