It is a very sad day in the NBA, today they lost not only a HOF coach but an ambassador to the game. Red was and is what the NBA strives to represent. There truly never will be another like Red.

Hate to see Red Auerbach go. He was the father of basketball. The father of all sports. He played a part in all 16 NBA Championships and coached the amazing 8 stright championship run for the Celtics. He is also the one that help bring Lebron James into the NBA. He is the father of this sport and will be greatly missed.

I actually hated and despised the Celtics, especailly since I'm a Lakers fan. But Red Auerbach was such a great icon in basketball and the nba. I would consider him the greatest coach of all time right now. Even though I didn't like the Celtics, I respect his achievements and his influence on the basketball world. Red's legacy will live on forever. R.I.P. Red Auerbach!!

I am deeply saddened by this as well more than words can say. I will miss him greatly. He was the best N.B.A. Coach that ever lived, the best General Mgr. and president that overseen that organization for many yrs. He was also the first coach to put in an 5 man line up that was African American. I shall keep lighting one up at the end of each victory for him. and would like Boston to consider that day in his memory from now on. Let that day be Red Auerbach Day. Look at who he brought in Cousy, Russell, Bird, Ainge, Mchale and the others My Celtics flag shall keep flying proudly in his memory.
God Bless Red May You Rest In Peace.

I think it's one of, if not thee biggest lost in basketball history since we lost the late great Wilt Chamberlain. But I think the lost of Red is bigger. He made the Celtics who we known them to be. He was more then a coach. He was a businessman, and the ultimate professional. Though I might not known him like many others, me being a basketball fanatic, Arnold "Red" Auerbach will be missed and remembered
R.I.P. to all the fallen NBA greats
Wilt
Pistol Pete
Auerbach and the many others

I am saddened, but not shocked. It would have been shocking if he died when he was 50 or so, but this great old guy kept going and going and going. And who looked cooler smoking a cigar?
