I always wondered my birthday is the day after (November 1) which also happens to be all saints day. My dad always told me that in the past Halloween was when the spirits would come out and on all saints day the angels would come down from heaven andnsend them back to hell. is there any truth to this?

Actually Halloween can be traced back to the Pagan holiday called Samhain (end of summer). It is the night when the wall between the living and the dead is at its thinnist and the dead can walk among the living. According to Celtic history, the bonfires that were lit, way back when, offered protection from any evil spirits that might be wandering around that night. Costumes were worn so that people could blend in with the spirits and not be fooled by them. It may have originated in Ireland, Britain, and/or France.
As for All Saint's Day, the Pagans celebrated this in April originally. It was Pope Gregory III who moved it to the day after Halloween. Some say that he did this to offset the influence of the Pagan holiday of Halloween and to replace the old Pagan holiday called the festival of the dead. All Saint's Day is distinctly different from Halloween and has nothing to do with angels taking the bad spirits away. Rather it is a day to pray to God and a time to celebrate all saints, those known and unknown and those that may have been forgotten during the year.

Well, from what I know, Halloween dates back (way back) and people would wear scary masks to ward off evil spirits...not sure about all saints day, but heck, why not?

i like to believe that they do come out...its fun...tho i really do believe in spirits...
my mom's birthday is before Halloween October 30 on All Hallows Eve or Mischief night
