When you sign up for a cell phone plan, they usually give you a discounted phone...and even when you buy a new phone from the provider, you get it discounted if you renew your contract..this is because cell phone companies take an intial hit in the red when you purchase a phone and they make up the losses in your mothly fee, which is why they want you to sign up for 2 years.

All providers in the US SIM-Lock thier phones...meaning they won't work unless they have a sim-card from that provider in the phone. It prevents someone from getting a good phone free from provider a, defaulting on the contract, then taking that phone to company b and using it, and Cingular is no exception. Chances are, your 3125 is locked and won't work with a TMobile card..however, there is hope. If you've been a subscriber long enough, Cingular will sometimes unlock the phone to use any sim at your request. If you haven't had it that long, then Cingular is probably not likely to unlock it and you'll have to find a service online that does it, which usually requires a fee. Sometimes phones that are exclusive to thier network they'll refuse to unlock. But, no, you can't just swap SIM's, you'll get an error code, unless your phone happens to be unlocked.

you can try it...it won't do any damage to the sim or phone if it's locked, the phone will refuse to work and will simply say "Sim Error" and ask for a code when you do anything except try to make a 911 call.
