I have been a stepmom for nine years. I never wanted kids, never planned onthem, so it was all a shock to me. My husband came with a (at the time) 16 year old daughter who hated me for the first 2 yeard regardless of what I did, and a 7 year old son, who accepted me pretty quickly. The mom was and is a drunk with various problems so a lot of the parenting was put on me.It was hard and something I never asked for. BUt if you love the man, you have to deal with the kids. We all get along great now, but it was a huge adjustment for me.

It is hard to be a step parent, I think the best choice you have is just lock your room, that is the only way he will learn to knock at the door. Probably your husband didn't teach them to knock at the door before entering a room, that is something you teach to your kids, well... that is what my mother thought me and I do the same with mine.

Well you cant be expected to parent an 18 year old ,try talking to him adult to adult ,ask him if he wants you to invade his space,he would not like it ... ,do it a couple of times if he wont stop after a chat.He is not a child so it wont be any good trying to treat him as one so treat him like a young flat mate and make him respect you as another person rather than a step mother .

Seems like he has some deep seeded resentment of you due him mourning the seperation from his mom.
I don't know how long you have been a step-mother but I have heard that it takes as many years as the step-child is old to have them accept you.

Time to get a lock on the door. Also, the kid is testing his dad's loyalty. Make sure dad is spending enough quality one on one time with his son.

18months,maybe he feels left out.mine come to my door i hold and hug them and enjoy them for the little children that they are.what kind of step mom do you plan to be?not that it applies in this case, but i have always liked the saying that anyone can father a child, but it takes a real man to be the DADDY!!! i was raised by a step mother because my real mother did not want me and guess who gets all the goodies a grown son can give their MOTHER{the one that raises them}.met real mother when i was 28,never seen her again since which proves that she really did not want me and guess what,my step mother held me and told me it was alright because she loved me and i was her Michael.
