If the car starts, you should be OK. Ask the mechanic who calibrates it for you every month. Cigarette smoke shouldn't make it read fail, so there is probably something wrong with the handset. They will replace it for free.

As far as looking at the failed readings, yes, they do. Whatever group decided for you to have the interlock placed on your car, be it ASAP or other probationary service, they get updates every month after your calibrations. They will most likely contact you and ask what the deal is. If you can get the Interlock people to back you up about the smoking thing, you might get off with a warning, otherwise they can send your case back to court to show cause why you have had failed readings. If that is the case, you have to prove it to the judge. Good Luck!!!

Smoking should not set the unit off in the first place. One of the things that I have found are mouthwashes more than anything else will set them off. Unless the tobacco you use is soaked in alcohol. The ignition interlocks are set at a lower reading. So some mouthwashes and toothpaste would warn or fail you depending on how long before the test you used them.

Please tell me you are joking....?!
Does that really exist (in a car's ignition lock)?
First they took all the ash trays out in new cars, and now they won't start the engine if you are a smoker?
Why don't they disable bloody cell phones with the ignition key?!
