There is still a stigma associated with mental illness...It's not as physically evident and therefore questionable by others so you feel you are seen as a 'weak-needy' person. Even if you need someone to talk to or you are socially uncomfortable and avoid groups/gatherings. This doesn't mean you are weak. Plus the field of Psychology is not considered to be based on proven fact and it is a field of utter confidenciality. The successes are not spoken of (unless you're Dr. Phill) . It takes such strength to seek help but then there is the problem of finding the right Mental Health Professional...But they are out there and it is worth it... To suffer with emotional issues is to be uncomfortable in one's own skin.! This is no way to live. We owe it to ourselves to be as happy and fulfilled as we can be. It is our RIGHT as a human. Also a quick fix-pill-diet-whatever is done medically, is less unnerving somehow. It reassures that nagging question.

There is still a stigma attached to being 'mentally ill' and most people don't want to appear the least bit 'crazy'. Some are also afraid they will be drugged to the point of incompetence or placed in an institution. Also, some doctors aren't too educated in mental disorders and treat their patients badly, insisting that they must be taking drugs, esp. if the person exhibits symptoms of schizophrenia. One such doctor even told a family member "I don't know what's wrong with you. Why don't you talk to a priest." I was disgusted!!

Many people treat mental illness as less valid, perhaps because the human mind is so mysterious and people are reluctant to see a doctor if they can't "prove" there is something wrong, such as with physical symptoms. There is also more of a stigma attached to mental illness, like maybe the person with it is at fault or is somehow weak.

Sometimes the person with a mental disorder doesn't realize he has it. Sometimes he thinks it will go away, just like a cold or the flu. Sometimes he's too ashamed to seek help.

Even medical doctors could make errors, exceedingly GPs. often the guy can understand greater approximately what is going on than a doctor. particular self-diagnoses seem often greater precise than a doctor's analysis. human beings do no longer like to make self-analysis. they might extremely that they did no longer have something in any respect. additionally there are some psychological diagnoses that don't look to make lots distinction for persons's on a daily basis existence no count if or no longer they get a expert analysis or no longer via fact they actually are not treatable yet. Aspergers is definitely one of those. I self clinically determined and at last a expert shown it that's what occurs maximum often with adults with Aspergers.some circumstances, like melancholy, won't be so severe as to wish scientific care, so why visit a doctor or psychologist? many human beings do self-diagnose actual illnesses too. The Flu is possibly the main self-clinically determined affliction of all and fairly some human beings do no longer truly understand the thank you to exact realize it. maximum persons do no longer visit the scientific expert for the flu different than while it is existence threatening or in the event that they're truly youthful or previous. skin and breast maximum cancers are easily often observed first with the help of the guy who has it that's a solid factor, via fact maximum persons do no longer see a doctor very often. in case you spot or experience some thing ordinary on your physique, you need to make certain a doctor via fact is maximum cancers. If I see somebody on Y!A diagnosing themselves and that i think of they could be incorrect, I tell them and that i'll tell them to make certain a expert while i think of it is severe sufficient. maximum absolutely everyone seems to be too scared to make certain a expert and could desire to be properly talked into it while they could desire to make certain somebody. fairly some the time I believe their self diagnoses. Bi-polar is the single i'm least possibly to believe even while others agree. medical doctors have not got lots time, so i think of it is efficient to look into issues that don't look top quite formerly seeing a doctor. The worst which could take place is which you would be able to correctly be afraid for no solid reason. medical doctors and sufferers are the two to blame for wellbeing. absolutely everyone desires to act responsibly while their wellbeing is worried. I believe Feelin Groovy.

People are afraid to seek help for mental disorders because there is a stigma attached to needing mental help. They are afraid people will think they are crazy, which is most cases, isn't the truth at all.

SHAME!!!! but the REAL shame is BECAUSE ,I beleive a- lot of tragedy's could be avoided ...take the incident in Pen. at the Amish school,if the perp. would have just confided in a mental health proffessional the thoughts, and feelings he was experiencincing perhaps he could've been properly medicated and under went therapy to stabalize him.But apparently he was too embaressed, so he just kept it bottled up, till it appatrently drove him mad. His poor family and the poor victims ....

Sometimes it comes down to it feeling too personal to deal with what is going on in the mind. The person doesn't understand it themselves so they think 'how is someone else going to understand?' Not to mention physical symptoms are easier to describe than describing mental symptoms.

Its part bad stigma and part co$t. A lot of health plans dont give enough coverages for mental disorders.
