Ok i found the answer to the following math problem using distributive law. I multiplied in the first step to get rid of the fractions. I got that answer correct but now i still havent gotten the correct answer using a sequence of equivalent equations. Heres the problem , please let me know the steps you took to answer that problem :

I already did the one where you multiply 5 by everything to get rid of fraction. I just need the other one where you subtract. Thanks !!

7= a + 14/5
This can also be written as a + 14/5 = 7
So,
a + 14/5 = 7
a = 7 - (14/5)

7 = a + (14/5)
but it is conceivable you meant 7 = (a+14)/5
7 = a + (14/5)
subtract 14/5
7 - 14/5 = a
multiply the first term on the left by 5/5
35/5 - 14/5 = a

(35-14)/5 = a
21/5 = a

It's easiest just to take 7 - 14/5, which is 21/5 or 4.2 .
