How can I get my 23 year old husband to break his addiction of playing video games...this doesn't interfere with our daily lives, but whenever we ave free time instead of spending it with me, he just plays his video games.

I have already talked to him about it, we are newlyweds and I feel like I am being put on the back burner for a video game. Although I am glad he is still at home and I know what he is doing, it still hurts and confuses me.

Good luck with that. Seriously though, at least you know where he is. Many of my friends wives wish they would stay home more instead of going to bars, or hunting and fishing. He will eventually tire of the games but it may take a while. I am not into video games but once me and my wife spent all night playing Dr. Mario. We still laugh about that. It was so addicting. I used to play a lot when I was younger also but I outgrew them. I think as you get older, your priorities change and the video games take a back seat to everything else.

As with any addiction, the person has to recognize there is a problem before they can get treatment. Consider yourself lucky that it's video games and not porn or drugs. Talk to him about it and give him the hypothetical situation that if you two were ever to have children you would expect him to help out equally with the child instead of playing. You can't do everything yourself.

My hubby used to do the same thing. Then i decided that while he was playing, i would give him some "attention" but I told him he had to keep playing and not touch me back. After about 5 min, he gave up the video game and found me more interesting. since then, he plays but only until i enter the room and then his attention focuses on me and what i "might" do.
Other than that, the saying goes..replace one bad habit with another..or live with what he does..better than porn.

Join the club, Sweetie! My 30 year old husband is addicted to online computer games. He goes to work and makes a great living, but pretty much all his free time at home is spent in front of the computer. I think the key to getting him to stop (as this is sort of working for me right now) is to simply give him only as much attention as he gives to you. My hubbie knows that if he ignores me all afternoon and evening and then comes to bed wanting to get lucky, he's not getting it.

You can't. This is the most important lesson that anyone can learn in life: You cannot change or control anyone but you. You have absolutely no control over another human being on this planet. You can only control/change your own feelings/actions towards another's behavior. That is all.

Maybe you can find something of your own that will take just as much time as his video games do. Maybe that will give him a taste of his own medicine.

those are quite addictive , almost addictive as the computer. you can't break someone's addiction for them or convince them to stop something they enjoy. he will have to get burnt out on it by himself. or find a new game....

Get a hobby or go back to school. When he has had his share of neglect he will sit up and pay attention.
