Jamaica is famous for SKA Music.

Ska is a form of Jamaican music combining elements of traditional mento and calypso with an American jazz and rhythm and blues sound. It is notable for its shuffling, scratchlike tempo and jazz-like horn riffs on the offbeat.

Originating in Jamaica, possibly in the 1950s, it was a precursor to rocksteady and later reggae. It was the predominant form of music listened to by rude boys, although many ska artists condemned the violent subculture. It is also popular with mods and skinheads, with artists such as Symarip, Laurel Aitken, Desmond Dekker and The Pioneers aiming songs at these groups as early as the 1960s.

Musical historians typically divide the history of ska into three waves. There was revival of note in England in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and another wave of popularity in the 1990s, mostly based in the United States and Argentina.

When people hear that I’m from Jamaica, they smile and do bad Bob Marley imitations. I cringe. Even though we’re a diverse country built by slaves and indentured servants from Africa, China, India and Wales, we seem to be known mostly for the legendary reggae musician and breathtaking beaches. According the view of world jamaica is famous for its Lush mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, sophisticated golf resorts and stunning sand strands mean that there is a vacation for every taste and style.

i view J.A. as a place that u should come for your next vacation :)
It is great. We've got the white sand beaches, the craft markets, an interesting history, wonderful people ( i am not boasting, but this place is absolutely wonderful and i love it!)

Most people really know Jamaica because of marijuana and reggae/ dancehall music but there is much more to it than that.

It's sad, but I think when most people think of Jamaica, they think of a lot of violence and crime, Bob Marley, reggae, and weed (like the other guy said).

But I've heard from people who have actually gone there that it's beautiful. I'd love to go one day. Maybe next summer.
