As long as your parents are American then your American even if your born outside of the US. And if you become a naturalized citizen then your an American! Also you could have dual citizenship and be American and another nationality as well at the same time!

Of course people acquire American passport and in that sense they become Americans. However these geographical lines on earht make little sense as good and bad people are everywhere on earth. Sojoin the company of good no matter what place, race, color they belong to.

Actually, you are also "an American" if you are from Central and South America ( when I was touring some very nice Panamanians and Peruvians reminded me that Central and South are part of "the Americas" according to the United Nations).

an american is not always someone who has U.S.A. citizenship, it is someone who believes in (most of) the ideals on the constitution (all men created equil, that stuff) and someone who feels pride when they look upon the Stars And Stripes.
