I have a compaq that is about 5 y.o. I want to be able to leave it on 24/7, my monitor goes into standby after a few minutes, but my fan on my disk drive stays on forever. I don't want to burn it up, how do I get my tower light to go to yellow (standby) like my monitor does?

Start
Settings
Control panel
Power options (or something similiar depending on your operating system)

First tab says "Power schemes"
Look for system standby and turn that on for like after an hour or something. That way within an hour of non use it will go standby

Check your options in the shut down section from your start menu. It should have a hibernate mode that is the stand by.
