No 18 year old guy want a book.
Gift certificates are a great gift...but their is no thought put into it. Find out what he likes? Does he love music? what kind of music? Does he play sports? you could get him something for that? Clothing is always good.
but speaking as an 18 year old guy myself...wait for him at the door before he comes home. wearing a hot outfit, then strip for him and give him a wild f*ck while your listening to his favourite music u just bought him for his birthday. and then make his favourite food for after your hot night. Guys are as simple as an Ipod.

I would purchase a gift card....often times, your local mall will sell cards that are good at any store in the mall. These work the best with the teens in my family.
