What's the best way to find a small investor?

I have a business idea that would only require a few thousands dollars to execute, but I don't know where to look for investment. My family and friends aren't an option.

Is there a place on the internet where I can find someone to hear out my idea and consider investing in it?

do a survey of vertically callenged investors.. choose the best!! job sorted. p.s. im short but have no money :o(
