the truth, last year I spent Christmas alone,I was going through rehab.Had to leave my job,so I was broke,my wife had left to another state, cause the house we were at got too crazy(were reconciled now)my brother whom we lived with left for his girlfriends house,I chose to stay behind. There were no gifts,no tree,no big dinner, just a candle that I lit in Honor of Jesus' birth.
I watched video's of the Grinch,Peanuts etc.and although the memories I recalled brought a tear to my eye for wishing members of my family were still alive and or around and that I could go back to those times when I watched these as a child, the true meaning of Christmas was there, a Savior was born, It sounds corny, but I now realize why we celebrate and the rest of the traditions are all just fluff, icing on the birthday cake, and I plan to keep the tradition and light that candle again to burn all night on Christmas Eve

Honestly I can not tell you what the best gifts are, I recieved so many. I guess each Christmas is so different and special.
I had gotten money to help with my wisdom teeth problem to pay the dentist from my soon to be husband, back 96. My son gave me goober grape ( peanut butter and jelly mixed) The simple act of forgiveness when I thought I ruined Christmas for everyone when I left the water heater on and water came spitting out of the heaters. I got a TV that I thought was for my brother, when I seen it in my parents closet.
Just to many.
I don't know the best present honestly because if depends on how the person felt about it, but I think the best present in my house that was recieved was a pool table for my son. Santa brought it. (wink wink)

I bought a drum set for my step daughter a few years ago but only wrapped up the drumsticks. It is very difficult to wrap up a drum set on Christmas Eve without anyone catching on...the disappointed look on her face when she opened the sticks up made me want to cry. It was a cry of joy though, when she went to refill my coffee cup in the kitchen and happened to glance into the the room we used as an office and saw a candy apple red drum set sparkling with a big bow and a sign that read "Merry Christmas, Steph" on it! The joy she's had over the years making music is the best gift I've ever received from her.
Last year, I received a washing machine from Sears anonymously.

I have 2 that are equal in my heart (these are one I have received) the first one was when I was 15, it was $20 from my father who passed away less than a month later. The second was 5 years later when I found out on christmas eve I was going to be a mom for the first time. The best gift I have ever given was also when I was 15, it was a tape of me singing the Rose by bette midler that I gave to my father. I didn't know at the time it was his favorite song. I learned about it after his funeral, when my step mom told me he played that tape for all the nurses while he was in the hospital, he died of cancer.

I got an engagement ring for christmas. I give great gifts on christmas, but I don't think I will anymore. I get expensive items and people give me crappy things so, I'll just say to myself when I buy them a crappy gift it's the thought that counts.

Getting to spend time with my family and celebrating the birth of Jesus is the best gift! Sure I've gotten nice things over the years, but nothing can compare with being able to spend time with my family...I love them!!
