No, I have a new home (only a year old), so when it was built the building code for this area required the smoke detector/alarms be wired into the ceiling, with a battery back up, just in case...and the batteries have never been used :-)

Oh great! I forgot again. Hey, the batteries have lasted 2 years, another 6 months otta be a breeze.

No. It beeped really loud the last time Dragon pushed the tester button. Dragon's ears hurt really bad after that. She needs to use a broom handle next time and not her finger.

we do it twice a year, along with all the clock batteries- when the time changes
