I think it is old school. My mom was an arranged marriage. I would never force my kids to marry someone they don't know.

Well, i think it could be a great idea or it could be a disaster. It really depends. My parents had an arranged marriage and they are very very happy and apperantly so much in love after got married.
If you really think you could learn to love a person, then it's not a bad idea cuz i believe if u got an arranged marriage, they arranging it with someone nice, reliable (so thats y they approves him/her). I'd say get to know the person better first, and see how it goes. Just dont straight away close the door. U never know, he/she could be the best partner you could ever ask for!

A "few" years back, my Italian-American family tried to arrange a marriage between 19 year old me and a 21 year old friend of the family who was visiting from Italy. OMG!!! I can't believe this stuff still happens.

I think you should have some contact with the person in advance to be given a choice of saying yes or no

NO! Definitely NO -- I had an Aunt who was subjected to this HORROR when she was very young -- and it was a DISASTER -- and she fled to America where, with the help of MY grandfather, was able to establish a life and be happy.

Well, it's not for me, but it does work in other cultures. I'm not in favour of very young girls being given away to older men though.

i hear that it's a custom in some countries. for me personally, i would rather have the freedom to follow my heart and fall in love rather than marry a stranger that my family has decided would be best for me.

It is primal and an insult to both people. we should be able to chose who we love and who we want to spend the rest of our lives with...that is part of the journey. I dont want someone else to take it for me.
