My cat has been begging for a hamster for years. I suspect that his reasons have nothing to do with having a little buddy and more to do with lunch.
A cat would probably spend it's days trying to get into the cage & get the hampster. Basically any small creature is fair game to a cat.

I had a hamster and a cat a few years ago. I kept the cage in a high place with barely any free space for the cat to jump up on, and everything was fine. Brace it against the wall or a heavy object if you think a cat would try to make the jump anyway.

No matter the size, unless you get something larger than a small rabbit the cat is going to think it's a toy. Recently rescued a ferret, and have had a hard time getting my "boys" to realize that this is their "new sister" (even though she is 6), luckily have had the boys long enough and have done fostering enough that they adapted fairly well. Even when I was younger and we had ferrets and hamsters, the ferrets beat the crud out of the hamsters in the exercise ball. Just remember, no matter what you get, you need to take a lot of time for the two in the house to get used to them.

Depends on the cat...
One of my cats used to pose for piccies when I was a kid with my pet hamster - sat side by side... Others hunt mice all the time....
Although it is their instinct to hunt so if you where to get a hamster maybe the best idea would be to ensure they're kept seperate - ie never let your cat go in the room.
Hope you find the ideal second pet

no guinea pigs. it depends on the cat... if there is a male and female, there might be kittens, in which case the parents will be compelled to hunt for them.... but if they're neutered or old, they might get along fine. but make sure the cats get used to the hamster before u leave the three alone in the house...

If your cat is house trained then it should be fine. But if your cat is not house trained and jumps on tables then you should not get the hamster. If you want the hamster bad then keep the hamster close to you.

The cats would almost certainly eat the hamster.

If whatever you get escapes from it's cage it will die a slow death. Simple as that.
