Although his mother has stated that Bush has a reading disorder, and that may suggest he has a learning disability, the most likely explanation is that Bush is stupid by choice. Beyond question, Bush is the least curious and most intellectually lazy President in American history.

Look at the evidence. Bush invaded Iraq without any idea who the Sunni, Shi’a, or Kurds were, or that there were any internal political, ideological, religious, or ethic tensions. Such information had to have come to his attention. That is what Colin Powell meant when he told the President, “if you break it, you own it”. Bush’s own father knew and even detailed it in a book he wrote in 1998 (A World Transformed).

And, in what has to be one of the most ironic moments in the history of mankind – Bush had success and greatness, quite ‘literally’, staring him in the face but did not see it. If, on the day Bush stood on the aircraft carrier under the ‘Mission Accomplished’ banner, he had really meant ‘mission accomplished’ and started bringing the troops home that day, he might have gone down in history as the greatest politician in the last 200 years.

If Bush had only declared victory and brought our troops home at that time, Iraq probably would have fixed itself well before the 2004 Presidential election and Bush would have really had the mandate he mistakenly thought he had received. Even if Iraq was still a mess in 2004, Bush could have simply said, ‘see I told you what a dangerous place Iraq was and that we should have stayed’. Again, it is a slam dunk for the Republicans and they would not be facing loses in the House and/or Senate this year (and, certainly in 2008).

There is nothing more dangerous to a nation than having leaders whose personalities are a combination of arrogance + power + stupidity. Unfortunately, that is the defining trait of America’s leadership and government under conservative Republican rule.

The results are apparent: we have lost Afghanistan and Iraq; we are losing the war on terror, badly; our nation has been stripped of its’ honor, dignity, and moral authority (that was earned over a period of more than 200 years); we have lost all of our friends; and, we are the most despised, hated, and mistrusted nation on earth.

The legacy of the Bush administration will be: Stupid is as stupid does.

Good observation and good answer. There are definite personality traits associated with 'dry drunks' and this make explain much of Bush's thought patterns and actions.

I wonder if he will start drinking once out of office. he will still be relatively young, but he has no skills and cannot do anything other than be the puppet or figurehead.

My answer wont win but let me seriously give you a starting point to understand GW Bush....

He is a 'dry drunk'.

Bush couldn't deny using cocaine because there were so many people that knew about his use.

But his drug of choice is alcohol. Do you remember the drunk driving convictions in Maine in the 60s?

And he has made no secret he 'swore off' alcohol. Have you ever known a person without a problem to quit using it entirely?

Our president is an alcoholic. An alchy who is not using but unfortunately has never dealt with all the bushit that made him a drug abuser in the first place.

In this context, it is easy to understand his repeated lies and denials even when he is confronted when the truth. Just like any other druggie who never wants to admit his problem, our president can never admit he makes a mistake or has any flaws of personality.

He can not understand that he really has injured others. Bush truely has no compassion or even acknowlegement that his actions caused thousands of people to die and maybe millions to lose their homes.

While I desparately want the Republicans and Bush and all the neo-cons deeply under the nearest rock, I feel sorry for Bush not getting the help he needs. His own family must be the same as any other family with a drunk at the table.

It all depends on if he thinks most in USA and world are nitwits or if he believes nuclear war is winnable. The last statement on Iran was like something a mentally challenged bully would say publicly. It truly is frightening that MR bully is making foreign policy and painting himself and US into corner with just one escape. Vote for Conservative Republicans if you think they will make room for you in bomb shelter he scurried his cowardly butt when one plane armed with jet fuel hit one building and another came close to another building.

I think that people need to get over themselves. He got voted by the majority as the president, we should respect his decisions, not complain about what he does wrong. People make mistakes. Everyone here makes mistakes too. Stop ragging on Bush, because none of us are perfect.

Honestly, I don't think he's either. I do, however, think that he isn't a good public speaker. He doesn't have the ethos and pathos that people usually relate too. Doesn't mean he's an idiot, he's just not good at speaking to an audience. I think he is probably very smart, which is not something a democrat like myself would usually say, but he found a niche for himself as the "not so smart guy." It's a lot easier to get what you want if people think you don't understand.

I think his brain is a propaganda machine. He sees a big crowd of ppl then says whatever he thinks will make them like him. He's just a loser who never got laid in high school and now that he has money and power he still can't get ppl to like him.

Like the bumper sticker says....He's like a rock....only dumber! The people who tell him what to say can't even make him sound intelligent. I cringe every time I hear him make a speech.

My honest opinion; George W. Bush does not think things through. George W. Bush is one of those people who just does something and worries about the consequences afterwards. In other words, he reminds me a lot of my grandfather.

Chimpy is a retard. There is something seriously wrong with him. Maybe his brain is cooked from all the blow he snorted and booze he guzzled. Or maybe Ape-lord Bush has simply been stupid from birth.
