I always use a white linen table cloth with a table runner of fall colors on it. When my god-son was younger, I used his art work as table place mats.( It boosted his self-esteem). I have a large platter for the turkey.Three days in advance , I make pats of butter shaped like turkeys with a mold for making candy.I get out my fine china and polish my silverware that I inherited from my mother. I bake all my pies two days before the holiday.I make tiny little cards ( business card blanks ) for place settings, so we all don't rush to our same spots we always sit every other day of the year. This way family and friends are placed so they can enjoy the company of someone they normally would not naturally sit next to. None of this stuff is set in stone, I'm very flexible in a crowd. I like to keep things running in a timely fashion so I can enjoy the holiday, too, but I've learned from my mistakes and its easier to go with the flow when I pre-organize any job that can be done in advance.Good Luck and enjoy yourself...Pobody's Nerfect!

I avoid decorations. The food is what makes the table beautiful and festive. A variety of dishes and smiling faces are the things that make a thanksgiving table beautiful.

Our table is loaded up with food. I use my good china and serving pieces. Pretty cloth place mats. Napkin rings and cloth napkins. Stemware. I try to make everything look really pretty, but I don't have any centerpieces or anything. I spend my time making the food look pretty. Cutting pastry decorations out to put on top of my pies and things like that. One that gets a lot of compliments is cutting out leaf shapes and baking them and putting them on top of the pumpkin pie. I usually put three on the pie. On my double crust apple pie I use little gingerbread men and women cookie cutters to cut out steam vents on my upper crust. Then I cut out little hearts and put them on the upper crust in between my little people cut outs. Things like that.
