I am going to a lecture by Mike Nelson (host of Mystery Science Theatre 3000) and I need to know if I should dress nice like a suit and tie.

Well, I don't think I'd wear a costume, even though it's Halloween night. I think I would err on the side of being over-dressed rather than too casual. What you could do is find out who else is going and take a cue from that person. Or ask someone who is familiar with this type of lecture, what the proper attire would be.

Unless this is part of some professional conference where you're networking, there's absolutely no reason to have to wear a suit and tie, particularly for something I'm assuming will be a humorous evening.

I would say more like a pair of slacks or nice jeans and a sports coat or nice button up dress shirt with clean shoes. After all, it's not a funeral.

Not usually necessary for a lecture unless you are in a suit mood . . . just make sure you have had the recent shower as lectures are close, long term seating !

Go as one of those robots or as Mike Nelson himself. Or you could dress up as one of the "Lord of the Rings" characters. He likes them. See in the interview below.

You won't be criticized for looking your best. Were a sports jacket and tie and if you feel the occasion doesn't require a tie after arriving, you can loose it.

dress business casual, no tie necessary its good for any event.
