Sorry, spirit gum is the best option. Try to get some. Elmer's glue might work but it could be a bit painful to remove.

normal school glue could be used. It may sweat off in a few hours though. Just make sure your kid doesn't like... lick the glue or something.

How about some bandaids.You could use masking tape.
