The symptoms of pain and swelling in your right breast sound like mastitis. Mastitis is an infection of the breast tissue. It is more common while breast-feeding but can occur at other times. The pain and swelling of mastitis is usually accompanied by redness of the affected areas and it is common for the woman to have a fever which may make her feel quite unwell. Itchiness of the areola and nipple discharge can also occur in association with mastitis.
In a normal menstrual cycle tender swollen breasts are common before a period, but would not usually continue for so long, and both sides would tend to be affected. I suggest that you arrange to see your GP so that you can be examined. Mastitis is easily treated with antibiotics. If there is no sign of infection your GP will probably want to arrange some blood tests to assess your hormone levels. If the cause of your symptoms is unclear your GP is likely to arrange for you to be seen by a breast specialist.
