Go to start and look for tools for computer from manufacture and find PC doctor and do a diagnostic test on audio,If anything is messed up or UN installed it will bring up a window to where you can reinstall them .If you can not find PC doctor look for it on line under the maker of your computer and search there for diagnostic test or PC doctor .Good Luck

go to "start"
then "all Programs"
then "accessories"
then "entertainment"
then to"volume control"

in the Playback control window that is now open...
make sure that the 'Playback"and "Wave" modules have their volume maxed all the way to the top...and that at the bottom of those two modules, there are no check marks in the mute boxes.

That usually does the trick..
