Here is one I have never seen anywhere:

How does sound travel and its effect on other objects?

Materials needed:

Glass aquarium - 10 gallon minimum
Small radio or CD player with exterior speakers
Christmas tree icicles
Transparent tape

Tape the icicles to the inside bottom of the aquarium.
Invert the aquarium over the radio speakers (best on a solid surface so no air can get in).
Turn the radio on and see if the volume has any effect on the hanging icicles.

This may or may not work. Like I said, I have never seen this anywhere. But if it does, you will be one of the first. Science fairs give points for originality. It is a fairly cheap experiment - most people have a used aquarium somewhere or know someone who does. Icicles are going on sale now.

If this works, this could show your fellow students how sound volume moves air and compare the icicles to the ear drum. Variations could be using a high bass setting.

Some small things to consider: Don't let the speakers touch the glass - You don't want the vibrations from the speakers to move the icicles; you want the sound to do the work. Talk it over with your science teacher to troubleshoot any potential variables (great science word, eh?).

Good luck. If you do decide to do this, try to let me know how it goes.

Can we create light by chewing?

Description

Certain chemical bonds will generate light energy when the molecules are torn apart by mechanical crushing. Wintergreen Lifesaver candies contain some of these bonds. No other flavor of lifesaver candy (such as peppermint) will work in this experiment.

Depends on what you are learning, what you know, and what you can do creativly. Ask a teacher, they will give you the best ideas and also they know what they want and expect of you.
