As far as drugs to treat infertility, it is the cheapest. If it works for you, it will work quickly. that's the good. The bad and the ugly are the mood swings and the depression that goes along with it. I know many people who have taken clomid with similar reports on the effects on their mood. i also know someone who took it and got pregnant within a month!

It's not a bad idea if you need it for infertility. It's inexpensive and easy, but should really only be tried for 3 consecutive months. What's good about it is that it simply blocks your own estrogen for 5 days (which is actually temporary menopause), and then your estrogen surges to release more eggs. The risk for multiples is high, but everything has risks. You will get hot flashes during those 5 days, but you're never in pain and you can fully function with any day to day activities. It's really not a big deal. Some doctors will let you stay on it for 6 months, but again, because there is a "surge" of estrogen, there is a risk of developing cysts on your ovaries if you use it too long. 3 months is more realistic. Cysts can develop when a women's estrogen is high, so therefore, that is a risk with Clomid. Good luck, and definately see a fertility specialist, not just your gynecologist that dabbles in fertility treatments. Good luck!
