I've been a massive fan of Nirvana for longer than I can remember. Kurt Cobain was a very complex man, he battled lots of illnesses both mental and physical. I do not put him on a pedestal as some god like figure but I do see him as somewhat of a tragic hero. He rose from nothing to become the driving force behind the biggest band in the world. He produced some truly beautiful songs and touched millions of people. Dispite being a fan of Nirvana and Kurt I don't think he is a good role model for kids. He is the perfect example of a man overwhelmed by circumstance and he took the cowards way out. What do you think?

He is a ******* great role model for kids. Nobody said anything about being a good role model though. This is what your kids don't want to turn out to be. A gutless ******* wonder. Sure he had talent, but i have zero respect for people that kill themselves. The guy had everything he needed to change his life and he popped a bullet in himself. Hell, if everyone who had less to live for than him used him as a role model, overpopulation would never be an issue again.

first of all for the future Cobains of the world.... If you dont want to be famous dont keep putting out albums. Kurt Cobain was pissed off at the world and though he complained of all the trappings of fame he didnt do one thing in order to stop being famous. Even his death was done in such a way that people would be talking about him for years to come.I do agree he is a terrible role model and took the cowards way out. Btw I feel this way in spite of being a fan.

kids now don't really know everything, and alot of people still say one thing and another as to what happened. all kids will know now is he is dead. he died by a gun shot. he was overwhelmed. unless they really get into the music and research, or their friends already did, or have die hard fan parents they shouldn't have him as a role model. they usually find someone putting things out now... like paris hilton... (even better, huh?) i would hope they find someone that did something with their lives and made it great, and actually knows how to deal with things right. kids aren't gonna kill himself b/c of him... they see it on tv all the time.. in the news, in cartoons, in shows, in movies... seeing it enough will put the thought in their head... not just one person.

Definitely NOT a role model but an example of someone in need of help that did not get any. Suicide is NEVER a solution.

He did a lot of drugs and killed himself. Not to bag on the guy but that is a horrible role model. A kid would think "when times get tough I can just kill myself"

For kids? no
For people who know what theyre doing? sure, whatever, he's not someone i'de put my life on though... for obvious reasons.
Kids will look at this man, and worship him for the god he was... but then, they hit puberty, go into highschool, **** happens, they get sad, go home and listen to nirvana, hoping to get to it, literally.
Some people arent in the proper state of mind for some things, and it takes years of recognition and realization to be wise and know what you're doing... i got it soon, fortunately... or not?
Then, being philosophical will just make people think your crazy... i dont even know where im going with this anymore.
ill stop here.
Dont do heroin. its horrible. makes you throw up and feel horrid. Disgusting

Well, he was one of my role models as a kid, now i am a twenty-something, completely normal human being with no drug or mental health issues.

A good role model? No.

A dangerous one? Only if the person who idolizes him has suicidal and/or drug abusing tendencies.
