Guess you are not from Eastern Europe. You dont know how fortunate you are.Racoons in the house is a very good omen.Gypsies would tell you that money and good fortune will come your way, especially if they have younguns>If one or two came to my house, I'd leave them alone and buy lottery tickets.

Look in the phone book for animal control people, not exterminators tho they often do the work too. First someone must determine if there are babies involved, that will make this a whole lot harder. The animal control will try to capture then animal and also determine how it got into the attic. Then the entry will have to be sealed. No raccoon is going to want to leave a nice warm attic willingly with winter coming on....you'll need help.

I'd call animal control. If you can't get in there to trap them you can wait til they go out at night and close up the hole. But you have to be sure the babies are old enough to go out too. Otherwise they could be trapped inside. If you make it very unpleasant for them they will most likely move. Put a radio up there and play loud rock music all day.

Well, the only thing I can think of is get a friendly trap and load it with goodies, coaxing him out at night. Yes, must be done at night. Which means, of course, that you must be ready to seal the opening where he/she is getting in and out.
During this exercise, you must be diligent, quiet and ready. By ready, I mean have the hardware cloth and heavy-duty staple gun to fix the hole.
Good luck!
If you live in the city, animal control might handle it for you.

You'll need to find his source of entry in order to trap or stop him. Otherwise, try throwing moth balls into the area he occupys. Most critters do not like mothballs. I got rid of a family of skunks from under my house that way. Throw the mothballs up there when he is out hunting and tipping the neighbors' trash cans over.

Just a thought. If you could design a piece of sheet metal with a one way door.It would let him out but not back in. Similar to how an outside dryer vent operates. Remember, they have very good dextarity. Try to design it so it cannot get a grip on it to get back in. Boy this will get your brain going. Rube Golberg will have nothing on you.

call the game warden, they will come and either catch and remove or they will leave a wire trap cage for you to bait and catch him. Then either you take him somwhere and let him loose or call them and they'll remove. Here in FL we have Critter Catchers. They come remove any and all wildlife safely and humanely.
