You have enough time to learn it, but don't postpone it for too long, or it will get ovewhelming if you leave yourself too little time.

Go to www.ballroomdancers.com and find a studio near you they have a good directory. Contact a couple of them and tell them what your goals are. Take it from there.

Tango is as easy and difficlult at the same time. It is demanding, yet rewarding. Good luck with it.

In addition to customized choreogaphy which is what youy will probably want for your wedding, I strongly encourage you to take group classes with your fiance. This will give you more "floor experience" as we say it, which in turn will give you more confidence. You will be get more natural at it as opposed to just learning one routine.

In reality- it depends on many things. Some factors include: how quick a learner you are, how much time is in a lesson per week (a thirty minute class versus an hour and a half class), how much practice you put into it, how good your teacher is, which moves you're focusing on, etc. Most importantly, what level you would consider dancing "well". If you are a fairly quick learner, it will still take some time- absolutely more than a few months. It shouldn't take TOO long to master the basic steps (plus a few extra moves), but you would still have a long ways to go before you can be considered excellent. On that note- don't be discouraged by the fact that it will take a while to learn classic tango well. Even the best professional tango dancers still occasionally have to "brush up" on their dances. There are always new moves to learn.

I would check out a ballroom dance studio in that area (like Zebra Room, New Vision Dance Company). The basics of tango should be able to be learned in 6-8 wks, another 6-8 for intermediate steps.

To dance 'great' Tango takes a lot of practice....and heart...but just because it's difficult shouldn't stop you from starting. You have nearly a whole year to take lessons and practice...so start taking lessons...and by the time you get to your wedding, you will not only have learnt the basics of Tango...you will also be feeling great, and healthy, and will probably be a great lover on your wedding night...hehe...good luck! Go for it!

It is difficult to learn, but if you truly want to learn it and you don't give up, you can do it.
