They just reported on FOX NEWS (yes, I watch Fox News to keep in tune with what the republicans are thinking) that China is working with the U.S. to build more oil fields. Halliburton is currently there rebuilding parts of Iraq and extracting its oil. And this activity will only increase over time.
Are there any uninformed people out there still believe oil has absolutely nothing to do with it? And if so, why?

Ok fine. If you believe it is because Iraq needs oil as their main export after the war...then why has Halliburton been extracting Iraq's oil? Hmm???

antman you are so uninformed. You are brainwashed. Saddam did NOT have his eyes set on conquering the U.S. And oil IS being extracted right now from Iraq. Those are the facts. And you are too brainwashed to realize it.

Because Bush says it isn't. They voted for him. To admit he is a liar and making bad choices means admiting they also made a mistake. In todays society we do not take the blame for anything.

Maybe we should just vote in a chimp. At least it would be entertaining.

In the past, the United States has had ample opportunity to procure this oil for our own use - instead, we have made these Arabs extremely rich - simply because we have always paid for the oil.
If oil were the sole reason for pounding the hell out of these terrorists, we certainly would have just kept Kuwait after we drove the Iraqis out - wouldn't we?
Oil is a factor, no doubt, but if history is a good teacher, the "war for oil" scenario in Iraq just doesn't have the legs to carry a good argument.
It certainly doesn't explain our involvement in Viet Nam or Korea or ElSalvadore or Somalia etc....etc......- no oil in those places - only repressed people.

If you are to claim that oil was the main prize that motivated the Iraq invasion, you don't go on to support that claim by evidence that it only had SOMETHING to do with it, or require a refutation of your claim to prove oil had absolutely NOTHING to do with the matter - oil has something to do with everything that happens in the middle east, if not in the rest of the world.

Why should not the rebuilding of Iraq's oil producing capacity be primarily for the benefit of the Iraqis? And granted Haliburton is basically a corporate plunderer, why single out oil as the only reason it was put there or put itself there, to plunder?

I'm sure the whole operation was replete with mistakes and with unrealistic and misguided goals and objectives, but enough with the incipient conspiracy theories from both the right and the left, and the feeble arguments being floated to support them.

Relax Steve. Iraq needs to produce oil for export (the only other export is sand) The Iraqi economy is heavily dependent on this commodity Halliburton is skilled at this task. If you want to continue with the conspiracy theory at least remember that it's just a theory.

I believe our president! It is to topple the evil Saddam, who had his eyes set on conquering the U.S. I believe our president! It is to spread democracy and free the people of Iraq. I believe our president! We are there to stop the terrorists, better there than in your back yard or mine. You obviously do not watch enough Fox news. To think we are there only because of oil...shame on you.

Whatever it's about (and nobody seems to know) it's costing us 8 billion a month, a check which the republicans want to keep writing without stopping to ask what the hell we're getting in return.

Its not an "occupation", moron. We are fighting alongside the Iraqi's for their freedom.

The countries main resource is oil. If they do not produce oil, the new government will not have money to defend itself against the terrorist regimes funded by countries like Iran.

Why do Americans bleat about this all the time?

What do you think powers your houses, fills your cars and keeps your whole way of life going?

I'm personally glad that my government is taking pro-action to look after its people.
