You don't need to put the plantlet in the water. Just place it on a pot with compost while it is still attached to the mother plant. To keep it in place put a small stone on the stalk that's attached to it. When you see new leaves coming out then you can cut the stalk.
Keep it in a shady place.

First make sure the roots are pretty thick in the water. Then,
Try this: leave it in the water you are rooting it in, but take out about half the water, adding some nice, clean soil. And add a little more soil every day, taking out a little more water. This way the plant is not thrown out of the enviroment it already is used to and pushed into something new and strange. Keep doing this adding soil and lessening the water until you have mostly soil in it.

A few roots, a couple inches long. Spider plants are very hardy and can grow in dirt without roots, just by putting the plant in dirt. Good luck with your plant!

Actually, you can plant it directly into soil, it will already have a tiny root underneath, if not, just wait a while until it is slightly bigger.

You can tranplant spider plant babies straight from the plant. You don't need to put them in water at all.

When the roots start to grow 1to3in long put it in dirt they will start in dirt they did not need water to start.
