I'm checking for updates as Help->Check for updates and the reply mentions no updates available at this time.. I thought Firefox 2 is officially released.. is it stil in Beta ?

Since this is an upgrade (from 1.5 to 2.0) not just an update you have to download and install the new version from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ and also this is an official version (not a beta); of course you might get a notice in a few weeks that there is a new version available. And don't worry all your bookmarks will still be there in the new version.
Chances are you will still have to go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ and download it.
My advice: get it as soon as possible.

Go to mozzila's site I think you will find that 2 is still beta that the one you got is the last stable release I run the same and the beta both and 2 isnt totaly stable yet in my own opinion but even with its gliches its still faster and better than IE explore or the aol netscape. Two second later update just went to mozzila it is now officaly released.

It's official all right, I downloaded it yesterday. Just get it from the regular firefox page, it's the only one you can download, anyway, 1.5 is gone. Maybe they're not pushing it as an update yet because of the extra server traffic.

yes, it has been released. but you have to go to mozilla.com to download the update. otherwise, when you check for updates it only checks for updates for 1.5.0.7

yes! i just downloaded it go to www.mozilla.com and it is right ther. Though i lov I E 7 more. but ppl like different thigs i guess
