usually if you put the battery in backwards, you just put them in properly and it works.
if not, it might well be toast.
It is possible it could be fixed, but if it is a cheap radio, the cost of replacement would be less than the repairs.

If you put the battery in backwards and now it doesn't work with the battery in the correct way, then there is probably a diode inside that blew. Open up the radio (with it UNPLUGGED) and look for a black thing with a line on one end near where the power wire is attached. It (the diode) may look burned or be broke or will break when you touch it. It only cost about a dollar for a new one. You must know how to solder to replace it.
