I have an older computer, and i decided to try and get it up and running again,I put a powersupply in it,plugged it in,green light on the motherboard lit up,and I pushed the power button and nothing.

Could it be that the switch to turn it on is bad or is it a motherboard problem??

Could be the switch, or it could have to do with the hard drive. Check the IDE cables going from the motherboard to the hard drive.

You dont have the power supply hooked up wrong! If it wasnt the right supply, you couldnt connect to the mobo! Your switch isnt bad or you wouldnt see lights! It doesnt matter whether the ide cable is correct, you should still see a boot screen! Regardless of anything else, you should here one post beep, if you here more than 1, its telling you that you have a problem with the memory or some other hardware. You should at least get to the boot screen or bios if nothing else is working. I would guess your mobo is bad or someone has removed the ram stick..

Honestly, there could be any number of problems, and without a ton of additional information, nobody here will really even know where to begin.

Based on the nature and wording of your question, I'm guessing you don't have a lot of experience at building/upgrading computers, so your best bet is going to be to take the system to a computer store (such as Best Buy, CompUSA, PC Club, or a local shop), and have them take a look at it for you.

If your computer is not working properly when it is switched on, there is a hardware problem. Most of these problems can be solved by just opening up the computer and removing the dust. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yd34oj

You don't have the power switched hooked up to the motherboard correctly.
