I am getting evicted because i owe my landlord 1300 dollars. I fell behind due to some health problems and have already used emergency assistance through the county to move in here. Does anyone know of any programs in MN that i can utilize. I have four kids and can't afford to be evicted. I have no money to move or get another place, plus i am still recouperating from surgery. Any help is appreciated.

I Googled "MN financial assistance" and found this link which looks promising:

http://www.minnesotahelp.info/en/mn/cgi-bin/location.asp

Contact local churches too.

I've been out of work for more than a year due to health reasons and may soon be in similar circumstances. I'm hoping to recover before the money runs out entirely.

Best of luck to you and your family.

OK I am a Realtor. So listen up. Before you can be evicted your Landlord must give you a 30 day notice. In some counties it is a 60 day notice. After that time he must file a lis pendis in court. This takes 30 days to file then it takes a court date usually another 30 days. Go to court with a specialist in this field. They will provide them through a social worker. They will get you as many as six months with no rent. This will get you the time you need. Don't blow off the court date or try to go to court and represent yourself, because you don't know the law. Judges hate people who don't have attorneys. This is because they are attorneys. Now if you start working with one of these public works groups who do this do what they say. They may be able to work out something with the landlord.
Here is his side of it. He is in the business of real estate investments. Now you are tying up a house or apartment with no money coming in to pay his mortgage payment. He is screwed and now he is loosing money. If he does not act fast and agressively you might wind up sitting there six months and he might not make any money. Not to mention he could wind up in foreclosure if he can't make his payments. So he will work with you since you are not that far behind. Explain the medical problems and maybe he can take payments in increments till it is paid up. If he is being unreasonable and bullying you then go see the people who provide this service and let them help you. By the way he still will make money because he can write the loss off on his taxes. It's as good as getting the payment so don't worry about him.
Look on the internet. You did not say what state you are in. Under eviction help there are many different states. See what can help you.

Well first off make him take you to court, and plead your case there. After court the judge may or may not give you time to make arrangements..but this buys you a little time. ...in the meantime if you cannot borrow some of the money then you do have to look for housing of some kind, try subsidized.... You should also contact your local housing authority for assistance and your local independent living center they may also have funding ideas for you. If you do get evicited youshould still be able to go back to social services with your eviction notice and see what assistance they have *or housing vouchers.
I am not from that area .....so I dont have specific agenies...
sorry and hope it turns out ok.

Sorry to hear this! I guess laws are different here in the UK. Can you find a homeless advice unit, who should be able to inform you of the possible options. Alternatively, speak to the Landlord and get him to be patient, hopefully you are working and can promise some money shortly and possibly sell off some assets.

On the other hand, don't panic! Pray! It sure works!

Good Luck!

You knew you weren't working because of health problems. Why didn't you do something about this before the threat of eviction was even there? Get off the internet, open a phone book and start calling the appropriate people.
