I really like Halloween and I like picking out a scary costume to wear, and so do most of my friends. I'm in grade 9 (high school) and most of the kids in my grade are going out for Halloween. But I see lot's of people on here say that 12 is too old, and one person said no older than 8 or they shut the door on them.

I think 16 and 17 may be pushing it, so like this would probably be my last year. In my opinion, I think if teenagers like me and my friends, actually take the time to find a scary costume, then I think it should be ok, but that’s just my opinion. What do you think?

of course you're not too old. but I agree with you that 16 or 17 is a bit pushing it. I'm in 9th grade too, and I have friends trick or treating this year too. have fun!!!

omg who shuts the door on ppl over 8?
That's just mean!!!!! Think about it. A 9/10/11/12 or older year old trick or treating....mean old lady or a mean old man comes to the door and says: no candy for you!!!! and shuts the door in their face. I would cry. But I guess those people are the reason for tricks!!!! Anyway, i'd say you'd probably get less candy but trick or treating is still fun. Also, try going to costume competitions and stuff and watching scary movies with your friends. And go trick or treating with younger siblings or cousins

I had the exact same dilemma this year. I absolutely love trick-or-treating, but I was heartbroken when I assumed I couldn't go because I'm too old. Then in my english class, someone asked who was going trick or treating. Almost all of them excitedly yelled, "I AM!!" I don't feel as stupid anymore and I'm totally going. Dress up in a costume thats not revealing or anything, and go with a couple friends. If you act like you're too cool, then you're going to look too old. Just have fun, and no one will care! Ask yourself: If someone your age came to your door trick or treating and having a great time, would you shut the door in their face?

I think most adults picture in their minds, seeing little children, (under 12 maybe) coming to their doors, in cute little costumes. But I think, Trick or Treating should be for any age, and people should welcome Teens, who still find it fun to go out trick or treating. I am a Mother and Grandmother. I almost always made4 my kids costumes and dressed up myself to take them out. I even got offered a little candy myself! And I can tell you honestly, over the years, I always made the teens that came to my door feel at ease. I complimented them on their costumes, asked them if they had gotten much candy yet, and really made them feel better about themselves, before they left my doorstep. I would rather see teens in my doorway any day, than see them locked up for crimes they committed because they were bored, and had nothing else they could think of to do that night. GO Trick or Treating! (hopefully safely with some nice friends). Go have fun! And maybe during this next year, occasionally bring up the idea with your Parents, and some of your friends, that you would love to have a nice, fun, safe Halloween Party with a few of your friends. (You don't have to mention the safe part to your friends, they might think that is lame. Only to your Parents). You can really make it fun witha mix of classic, old fashioned games, and a few fresh, new ideas. For Ideas, go to the Library, or check the search engine.

I think the oldest person I've seen go trick or treating (besides parents) are 18 year olds. As long as you are with friends and are all dressed up, then thats okay! Anyways, if there are ppl who shut doors on you b/c they think you are too old, just know that not every house you go to will do that. I say its a win/win situation! :) Fun, friends and candy! Woo hoo

There are few things in life your are ever too old to do if you enjoy it. You might not want to go door to door for candy, but if you enjoy dressing up for Halloween, DO IT!! I do. It lets us be something for one night a year we might not be bold enough to do the rest of the year. And, it also lets us express who or what we are.

GO AHEAD: HAVE FUN BUT BE SAFE!

I think it's totally cool if you go in costume!

Believe me, people would rather give candy to 15-year-olds who ACTUALLY TAKE THE TIME TO DRESS UP than to the 15-year-olds who don't.

You are never too old to trick or treat! I'm sixteen and I went with a friend. If someone told us we were too old, we just went back later and corned their house.
