I am 14 years old and I'd really like to learn how to play the guitar. I've tried in the past but lack of motivation and laziness got the better of me. I'd rather not have formal lessons because when something has a time restriction it becomes a chore to me. I've tried lessons in the past and they simply do not cater to my learning style. Can anybody suggest any good methods for teaching yourself to play guitar?

If you really enjoy playing, it shouldn't be a chore to practice, and practice makes perfect. it can be frustrating at times, not being good right away, but the best players around have been playing for years, and have put in the time and effort needed to play good. keep at it, whenever you feel like playing, pick up youre guitar and strum away!!

i might say until you already possess a keyboard or piano you will have to absorb guitar. i more often than not say this since i'm a guitarist myself and get a lot pride from gambling. i have no idea how handy or tough finding out the piano is in any respect, so i cant supply you an sincere reply from that. i might additionally reccomend guitar since a guitar can also be comfortably transported, taken to different areas, not like a piano. additionally, many rock, steel, or even pop genres use guitar, however besides in classical and a few rock, i slightly pay attention piano. piano might be well to gain knowledge of since not like the guitar, you're compelled to gain knowledge of learn how to learn song. with guitar, all you've gotten is tablature. its more difficult to learn song on guitar since many notes are on a number of areas on a guitar, however there is just one of every be aware at the piano, clearing up a lot confusion. i additionally uncover it simpler to jot down song at the piano. despite the fact that i dont "play" piano, i do have a clavinova keyboard and test with it most commonly, and it is helping plenty. lengthy tale quick, every software has its professionals and cons. i might recommend guitar, readily since i play it, and recognise what its like. my foundation on that is you'll be able to be as well as you wish to be, so long as you train (that is going for piano too). additionally, i dont feel there was once any challenge while i switched from acoustic to electrical. the one change that can have troubled me was once that my acoustic guitar was once a work of crap, however my electrical, despite the fact that a starter guitar, was once plenty simpler to play. until you begin with a classical guitar and pass to electrical, you shouldnt have any challenge there.

It is called practice and if you are not motivated there is no other way. If you find the motivation there are plenty of books and videos. You might start with picking a song you like and getting the book (for guitar) from a music store. Ask for help from the store clerk so you don't get in over your head. There are plenty of songs with simple chords, but make sure before you buy. Start simple.

Best if u use a home study course, which allows you to progress at your own pace, practice whenever you like. I learned to play guitar using such a course myself. Best advice i can give you is to go to ReviewsNest.com - the reviews site where i read about the course i bought: http://www.reviewsnest.com/guitarlessons... . They give free reviews for several guitar courses, tell U what to look for in a course, and what u get in each course they checked.
I bought the LMG course (their top pick) and it is great, but costs $250 (i got it on sale for $200), so it's probably too expensive 4U (is it?) but they also have reviews for much cheaper courses.
Good luck, whatever you choose. Rock On!
Andy.

I had friends who would teach me how to play. It's fun when you play in groups. Also, try playing songs you want to learn and get the guitar tabs. But really, in the end, you just have to practice if you want to get better at it.
