look man I'm a huge sonic fan and love Ray allen he's my favorite player there guard position is asome! but there center and power forward is kind of weak man so if you even those to up your going to have a 500 season,they might make it like 7th or 8th.

It's going to be an uphill fight for a playoff spot in the Western Conference for the Sonics, but it may be possible for them to squeeze in for a late seed. Unlike in years past, this year there's actually not a clear cut playoff field in the West. There's really only 3 firm locks for the playoffs - Suns, Mavs and Spurs.
The picture looks a lot more murky after that. In fact, apart from Portland, every team in the West looks like they have a realistic chance of making the playoffs.
The Nuggets should return to the playoffs as should the Clippers, but neither is a lock. The Grizzlies would be in the same situation if Gasol wasn't injured for half the season.
The Hornets improved significantly this summer after just missing the playoffs last year.
The Rockets and Jazz both will improve on last year's records if their stars stay healthy.
Apart from those teams, you have the Kings, Warriors, Twolves and Lakers which all have a shot at making the playoffs... and out of all those teams, arguably the Sonics made the least progress.
Given though, that the Sonics play in the West's weakest Northwest division, all it might take if for Ridnour to start playing some D or Chris Wilcox being the star he's got the potential to be for them to just make it.
Realistically, I'd expect the Sonics to stay at 11th in the West with a small, outside chance of making the 8th seed. Either way it's going to be close. It's going to be one hell of a season.

Okay am I the only sane person answering this questions? If I do recall the Sonics gave the Spurs a run for their money a couple of years back in the playoffs. Ray Allen IS the best shooter in the NBA. He can put up 30 any night if he has enough help. Rashard Lewis is a very good forward that can shoot. With Chris Wilcox they have a low post threat that can dunk from any spot on the floor. If you look at their point guard they have one of the best young point guards in the league and Earl Watson isnt bad either. Now that Robert Swift is out for the year they are going to be a little thin at center. But the Sonics are a legit team. People have to take them seriously. No team in the Northwest division is good. I give the Sonics a good change of getting to the playoffs.

The Clippers made the playoffs in 05-06. This has no longer something to do with the team being aggressive, its approximately money. The Sonics needed a sparkling stadium and the city does no longer fund it so their proprietor used that as an excuse to flow the Sonics to his fatherland of Oklahoma city. David Stern needed this to happen.

I'm afraid not. When most people can't name at least 3 players on a team, it's not good. Ray Allen is Seattle and he is not enough to win.
