Alaska and Hawaii simply are states and therefore considered such. Washington D.C. is not a state but is considered such (perhaps as an extension of Maryland or simply as an uncounted state). Are you from Europe? Things are not as devisive here.

The District of Columbia is not a state. It is a federal district and the national capital. The city of Washington is co-located with the District of Columbia. DC has no congressional representation other than a ceremonial "delegate" to Congress. This congressional delegate can vote in committees but not on the floor of the Congress. The Congress administers the District of Columbia via a standing committee, however, since the introduction of "home rule" the District elects its own Mayor and City Council.
Alaska and Hawaii were, respectively, the 49th and 50th states admitted to the Union.

Alaska and Hawaii are states, but not part of the continental u.s. which is basically i guess what you could call the us mainland.
Washington dc or the district of Columbia isn't a state, it's just an area or district which has a lot of important government offices (including the white house!) and a lot of famous memorials from previous presidents and other government officials.

Are you serious? Alaska and Hawaii were the last two states to enter the union.
Washington DC, the DC stands for District of Columbia, is neither a state nor in a state. It is a totally separate entity.

D.C. is a special disctrict, not a state. They don't even have representation in the Senate. Alaska and Hawaii became states in 1959.
