seriously, we have a home wireless network, and i believe the ISP is SBC Yahoo! DSL, but evryone says that DSL maxes out at a mere 5mbps or so. Well, we have a Belkin Wireless Router(54g) that Runs at 110mbps for the main computer its connected to, and 54mbps for wireless transfers. We use 1 other desktop computer, and 2 laptops for a total of 3 wireless connections(both laptops are 802.11g0) i also use a PSP sometimes.(802.11b) What is this configuration called? i see roadrunner ads. boasting a massive 10 to 20mbps. In that case, if we got DSL, it is 54mbps; that beats the hell outta raodrunner, and everyone says RR is faster. Not in our case. Is this some souped up verison of DSL or what?

No, it's not a souped up version at all.
Your 100Mbps (wired), 54Mbps (802.11g) and 11Mbps (802.11b) are all internal speeds among your computers connected to the router (or DSL gateway in your case). This is your local network or LAN. Pretty fast compared to your ISP.
Your Internet speed (external or WAN) is independent from your LAN. Your Internet speed depends on your ISP. RoadRunner is indeed faster than DSL if you get the 10Mbps package. The problem with cable is that as more and more neighbors connect thru the same pipe you will actually share the bandwidth and eventually slow down.
So, don't get mislead by that 54Mbps speed on your taskbar. It only means the speed between you and the router, not from the router to the Internet.

Don't confuse your wireless network's speed with your DSL's speed! Your local network may be 54 mbps, but your Internet connection is whatever your DSL provider is giving you.
Depending upon the type of DSL you have and your distance to the CO, DSL can run much faster than 5 mbps. Most consumer accounts cap out around 6 mbps or less, usually much less, but considerably higher speeds may be possible.
Many ISPs are pushing much higher speeds, but keep one thing in mind -- your actual throughput will often be much lower than your connection speed with the ISP. We've got a T-3 at the office (45 mbps) but the best throughput I see on most sites is much lower, typically less than 10 mbps for any single site.

since your with sbc dsl run the speed test on the helpsite to get the more accurate result >> help.sbcglobal.net..on the site choose DSL or High Speed DSl as the settings then choose sbcglobal.net for the domain...then type on the search bar "speedtest" then choose on the result DSL speed test .. run the speed test and get the result..below the result theres a submit button..click on that and get the reference number ..call att coz you also need to know the status of the line if theres nothing wrong with the line thast causing interuption and you also need to know the package that your account has...if the lines are OK and your speed test result gave out with the range of the account..then there is something wrong with the router..
or click on the link so you'll go straight to the page http://help.sbcglobal.net/dsl/speedtest/
also..run the test while you have your belkin on and run it again without the belkin to compare results...if the speed is a lot fater without the router then there is somethign wrong with it...
this is usually our issue with routers since they are sharing the speed if youre on a network..
call ATT also for more inquiries 8777223755

Your wireless and lan connections of 110mb(should be 100mb) and 54mb is not your internet speed, but rather the speed in which your computers can share data at. (file transfers between them)
Your actual connection to the internet is 5mbps or less.. to check you can use this http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/results.php and do the free trial, (no subscription needed)
roadrunnyer having 10-20 seems very weird.. But unless you are doing massive downloading and every computer in your house is playing an online game or something at the same time whiledownloading a couple gig each, idk why you would need that much speed.

Thats the transfer speed of your router, not your Internet speed, its the speed at which files can be transfered within your network. You said that your DSL is 5 Mbps, thats your Internet speed that you bought, not 54 Mbps.

nothing personal but I think your adding a decimal point to that connection the fastest dsl ive found is about 5.4 mega bytes per second I'm connected to a backbone connection through a 900 mhz wireless direct link and the best I can get is about 47.9 mega bits per second thought with tweaking I am suppose to be able to get 50 my son who has a cable connection best his service offers only gets 10.2 mega bits per second are you sure they arent saying kbps which is kilo bits per second there is a major difference.
