I'd say about six. Here's my logic. If she's 4 when she starts to reproduce and now she's 12 that's 8 years. She had say three cubs at a time and having cubs four years years apart. One of the cubs usually dies which is why on nature shows you see a mother with two cubs instead of three. The culprit is usually large males. Once a cub is two its on its own and then maybe another year to find a mate plus gestation. Ofcourse 12 years is ancient for a grizzly bear. The average lifespan of a grizzly is closer to 9 years. So she had cubs at age 4 and at age 8 but did not have cubs at 12 because she would leave them as orphans when she dies of old age and she would know her cubs would die.

Females generally are first able to reproduce between 4 ½ and 10 years of age. The number of cubs in a litter depends upon the female’s body weight. Mating occurs between early May and mid July with cubs born between the end of January and early March. Usually a female brown bear reproduces once every 3 to 5 years (Brown 1993, p 132, Bauer and Bauer 1996 p 94). Since only 1 in 3 females breed in a given year, males must range widely in order to find a mate (Stirling 1993, p 92-93). A mother brown bear will remain with her young for 1 ½ to 3 ½ years (Brown 1993, p 145).

Therefore a 12 year old femal bear could have had 3 or more cubs depending on her weight and the age of maturation.
