I've just started college (4 weeks or so) and i've lost all my motivation. I want to succed as i have high ambitions and an excellent track record but at the moment i've just been spending a lot of time in bed (sleeping) and letting my work pile up. Some days i can't even get out of bed to get to college. Does anyone have any advice on how i can motivate myself so i can achieve my full potential?

Ask yourself this ... Why are you at college? What do you want out of life? Does it matter to you if you succede? Who would you disappoint if you flunked out? Could you bear the look of disappointment on their faces when they see you working at McDonald's asking the question: "Do you want fries with that?"

Time to get outta bed and start making the sacrifices you need to make in order to succede. Regret is a painful thing, but now you have the chance to do what's best for you. You KNOW you have what it takes to make it. Once you put your mind to it, you can do it ... I did, and it was hard ... I know I could have worked harder ... but I made up for it during my degree.

The things that you work the hardest for in life, are the things that you treasure the most when you get older. You will NEVER regret working hard. Trust me on that ...

Remember, your body may just be adjusting to the new schedule, so try to eat well, get some exercise and take some vitamins ... you would have enough stamina to put in some extra work and get up to go to class.

All the best with A Levels!

Ask yourself whether you have picked the right subjects. Have you chosen subjects because you enjoy them or because you got high grades in them? It might be that you are getting depressed because you are not enjoying your courses. It's not too late to change the subjects you are doing, speak to a teacher about alternatives.

Also are you happy at the college. Have all your friends gone somewhere else? It might take a while to settle into a new place of study. Again, it's not too late to make a change.

Hope that this helps and that you are soon back on track. Good luck with the A Levels.

Go to the campus clinic now. The bad thing about your situation is that if you don't do something about it now, it'll only get worse. (My first semester GPA was a 0.0! No kidding! I had to take a lot of grade replacement courses to bring up my GPA; a waste of time and money.)
Were you a gifted student? As a teacher of gifted students, I've seen that college can be a very difficult transition. (Of course, it's difficult for many students.) If you weren't used to having to study as hard or develop good organization/planning skills, college life can be a shock.
I hope that you will heed the advice everyone has posted; you owe it to yourself. You've made it this far! Best of luck!

depression is very common in the first year of college, also you have this new found freedom, nobody is making you go to class, and its no longer illegal to skip classes, I am at the point where I only go to class if i can get something out of it, if the professor is bad and I can do well with just the book then that is what I do, but if I enjoy the subject and professor I go to class, I also quickly learned that getting out of bed to sleep through class is a waste when you can just sleep in your own bed, but sleeping all the time is no good either, I know in the dorms meat is kinda gross so I started taking iron pills and exercising, and this gave me more energy.

If this is as out of character as it sounds it could be a slight depression, please have a chat with your doctor.
