Her vaginal area is very red and has bumps on them. What other ointments or remedies should I use?

If she has red bumps it could be candida which is a yeast infection. There are two things you can do, take her to the Dr and get her checked and they will prescribe an antibiotic. Also go to WalMart or Walgreens or something similar and get yourself some Aquaphor. It's expensive but it's the best thing out there it really is.

When you change her diaper, wet or soiled, wash her butt and vaginal area with a washcloth and mild baby soap (don't use baby wipes this irritates the skin further). Dry thoroughly and if you have a hairdryer on the coolest setting and held away from the area gently blowdry. Apply either the ointment the Dr prescribes or the Aquaphor if the Dr says there is no infection. While this rash continues change her frequently to keep her as comfortable as possible. Also let her wander with no diaper for as much as possible to let the area air out. The messes are easier for you to clean up than to deal with her discomfort later.

!HUGS! I hope she feels better soon!!

I have 6 children, 3 boys & 3 girls, so I have some experience with diaper rashes. A&D is the best ointment to use. I would suggest bathing her often and try to let her go without a diaper so her little bottom can dry out. Also if she cant go without the diaper try fastening it loosely. I know its sad to see them that way but patience is a good thing. I wouldnt use baby wipes until it clears up a little bit. So just wash her every diaper change and glob on the A&D and hopefully it will clear up. If she seems to be trying to scatch it could be a yeast infection, then she should see a doctor, or if she has a fever that could be a sign that its something other than a diaper rash. Good luck i hope this helps.

Poor thing, she must be in a lot of pain and discomfort. This happened to my son when he was an infant and returned from the hospital. They used "vasaline" on a very wet bottom and the skin couldn't breath, and caused a severe diaper rash.

Firstly, I would clean the area with soap and water and pat it dry, very dry.

Try to let her go without a diaper as long as possible to let the air at it.
Perhaps have her go diaperless when she's sleeping or at least half the night.

Secondly, use "Penaten" cream on the rash area - you can find it in the baby section at the local drug store. It is a cream that contains zinc oxide and it is a miracle.

I have only used Penaten cream on my son when he was a baby and never got a rash. Remember to put it on when the bottom is dried (never used vaseline, ever)

She rash should clear up in a few days and when it does, continue using it regularly on her bottom. Don't need much. I keep it on hand for any skin rashes or irritation that develop and it helps a lot.

If the rash does not go away within a day or two, or if you start to see signs of infection, I suggest you take her to the doctor's. Good luck !

See the doctor for sure,
you might want to ask him about the ointment - have you had it for a while? could it be contaminated and making it worse?

but here are some general things I've learned:
I know this is a pain and I'm old fashioned but I would use cloth diapers or even cloth trainer pants if they fit until this clears up (I used diaper service);
keep her clean - change diapers ASAP as soon as peed or pooed
rinse her off with warn (not too hot) water to remove pee or poo;
avoid baby wipes or soaps until she's better;
allow her to "air dry" when possible

I'm not a great believer in ointments or powders, but did use a dab of olive oil after bathing baby during winter to moisturize & protect skin. If you do use oitment save it for overnight when she needs more protection. The daytime is great for giving her some time to go without diaper as long as she is warm enough.

Stop using that A&D stuff. She might have a yeast diaper rash which needs different stuff. What I did to find out if my son had a yeast rash was I did a google search on pictures of yeast diaper rashes. If it does look like she has one you will need to call her doctor. One other thing, if you are using Luvs or Pampers diapers you need to stop using them until the rash heals. Walmart has a brand of diapers called Parent's Choice which will probably be easier on your baby's skin until the rash heals. If you have the money Huggies is a good brand to use during a diaper rash. If you would like to use a more natural disposible diaper try Tushies, Seventh Generation or TenderCare. You can get these at most of your health food stores, or sometimes a regular grocery store will carry them. I almost forgot don't use baby wipes either.

I agree with taking her to the doctor. If she has had it for a while it might have changed into something other than diaper rash. After seeing the doctor I recommend Desitin Creamy from then on. It was the only thing that worked most of the time in 1 application if it is applied right away for my daughter.

I never had very good results with ointments for a diaper rash. They just seemed to keep it wet and I thought it should dry up. What I did was wash the area and let it dry..then I used a product called Ammens Medicated Powder...My Dr told me about it and it really worked well for us. Good luck.

She probably has a yeast infection and you need to treat that. For just a diaper rash though the best ointment is desitin and vaseline mixed together is the cure it all for all diaper rashes unless she has a yeast infection.

It sounds like a yeast infection. Don't panic, many children get them. If you want take her to the doctor. I did with my first, he prescribed some kind of cream, but it didn't work to get rid of all of it, so I was told to get over the counter cream. I got the walmart brand, just spread it on like you do with diaper cream, two to three times a day and put your diaper cream over top of it. It will clear up in a few days. Both of my daughters got them, and that is what I used for them, and it worked with both of them. My doctor said it was OK to get it and use it. I have talked to numerous other mothers whose children have yeast infections and the cream that the doctor prescribed hardly ever cleared it up all the way.
Good luck!! If you don't feel safe getting over the counter stuff to use go to the doctor and let them prescribe the cream. I know how hard it is to see your children in pain!!!

A/D ointment contains cod liver oil which feeds yeast infections. Try leaving diaper off for periods so air hits it and also try using plain yogurt on the rash and if the child can tolerate it feed her yogurt, of course from a different container then what you are using to apply it on the rash.
