G'day Lauren K,
Thank you for your question.
It depends where you are and what are the poisonous spiders living in your area. If you are worried, I would call a ranger who would be knowledgable about the wildlife living in your local area.
Alternatively, you could look at taking a picture of it, posting it on a geocities page, Flickr or 360 so we could have a closer look at it. You could do this by adding a link. Alternatively, Wikipedia has a gallery of spiders you could have a look at. I havwe also posted a link to a spider identification chart.
While most spiders have some ability to inject venom, only about 200 species can inflict a bite that will seriously harm a human.
Most spiders can't.
I have attached sources for your reference.
Regards

The surest way is to get an expert to identify the species. However there are some general guideline; the vast majority of spiders aren’t harmful to human, and of those that are, most have bites that are only painful but does not have any adverse effect on you. Also those that are highly poisonous usually have very clear coloration and warning colour and pattern on its abdomen; judging from what u said the spider u trap is kind of plain and most likely harmless. I think it is a safe bet that the spider is not harmful to you. If you absolutely must play it safe just ignore it for a few days until it died and then pick it up with a piece of paper or a tweezer and chuck it out. Also don't worry so much about spiders in your house; they help eliminate other pest and nuisance that are more annoying and detrimental to your house such as cockroach, termite, flies, etc.

actual, NONE are "poisonous" in any respect. A poison is something you will possibly choose to ingest or inhale to verify that it to wreck you. you are able to eat any spider, and you does no longer be harmed one bit, nevertheless you will probable nevertheless be left particularly hungry! ALL spiders have VENOM, that's an organic and organic compound that they are in a position to inject into prey to immobilize it and initiate the digestive technique, from the interior out. Venom is extensively utilized, in intense circumstances, for self-protection. right here interior the U. S., in easy terms one spider species, the Black Widow(Latrodactus mactans), has been ordinary to reason human fatalities, and human deaths from spider bites are nevertheless particularly uncommon. There are some others that have "medically significant" venom, which will reason some intense issues requiring expert medical therapy, and those incorporate the Brown Recluse, Yellow Sac Spider, and "Hobo" Spider, yet by way of a techniques, maximum spider species are innocuous to human beings. Tarantulas, that are the main important spiders(and do stay in TX)are between the main docile and least possibly to chew, besides as often having very easy venom. by way of the way, the so-called "Daddy long-Legs" interior the U. S. isn't even a spider, yet a Harvestman, that's a vegetarian animal that has no fangs, no venom and can't chew. In Australia, the "Cellar Spider"(Pholcus phalangiodes), that's additionally uncomplicated right here interior the U. S., is termed "Daddy long-Legs", and an city legend has grown up that they have got the deadliest venom yet can not chew with the aid of their fangs being too short. it is ABSOLUTE fantasy, human beings, no fact to it in any respect, so please provide up spouting that rubbish right here! The final weblink I presented will with any luck sparkling that up... for the subsequent 5 minutes, or until the subsequent ignoramus comments that as "certainty', whichever comes first!

First just find a list of poisonous spiders in your area.
(in Ontario there are no poisonous spiders at all)
Then find a picture of each and see if it looks like the little guy you captured.

in the usa only 4 groups of spiders are poisonous.Black widow, brown recluse,Hobo spider, yellow sac spider*.
Most are too small to bite through skin, venom not adapted to humans, too little venom, not in same place as humans. All bites have 2 fang marks. BUT BE CAREFUL THE RECLUSE AND BLACK WIDOW's VENOM CAN KILL YOU (i think)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
type these spiders into the yahoo images, google images, dogpile images,or any other search engine. I really dont think you have anything to worry about.

In North America, you pretty much only need to worry about black widow and brown recluse spiders. Here are what they look like:

If you're not sure, better safe than sorry.
