Yes have visited there 3 times, was there a couple weeks ago on a cruise. The island is small and has a couple or three towns. The ferry and cruise ships usually dock at the town of Oak Bluffs. Its like a small New England town. About 3 blocks of small shops and restaurants. The town has houses dating back to the early 1800 and many are maintained in original condition.

Another town is Edgartown, where the Kennedy compound is located. Its another small town with a few shops and places to eat. If you tour the island you will undoubtedly go to Gay Head which is on the opposite side of the island from Oak Bluff. There is a light house there , a beach, and a few shops. There is a bike path on the island that you can take if you want to rent a bike; you can do that in Oak Bluff.

There are some beaches on the island but I would not recommend getting into the water unless its about 90+ outside because the water temperature is in the 50's or so, really cold. The island is very green but not picturesque like an island in the Caribbean. Some places all you see is trees and bushes.

Around this time of year the island will be almost empty. It's a gorgeous, beach area, with just a few small towns. All very expensive. Rich in history, since it is so close to Boston, and of course home to the Kennedy Compound. Not too much to do as the crowds have left in November and many attractions and dining are seasonal only. Worth a trip for sure, but unless you are there in July, or some summer/spring months, you can't get the full effect.
