An element oxidized if it's oxidizing number increases and it is reduced if it's oxidizing number reduces.

(a) Si is oxidized: It's ox. num. increases from 0 to +4. Cl is reduced because it's ox. num reduces from 0 to -1.

(b) Fe is oxidized. It's ox.num. increases from 0 to +2. Cu is reduced because it's ox.num reduced from +2 to 0.

a) Si is oxidized, and Cl2 is reduced, becos Si goes from 0 to +4 oxidation state, while chlorine goes from 0 to -2.

b)Fe is oxidized from 0 to +3, while Cu is reduced from +2 to 0.

hope that helps

by the way this is the correct answer, look at the 3 (subscript) on the Fe(NO3)3. IT IS NOT 2 IT IS 3, THE PREVIOUS PERSONS ANSWER IS CORRECT UP TO THIS POINT, IT THEN SAYS 2, ITS IS ACTUALLY 3.
