it's called projection, and they do it because it's easier to point fingers than to look in the mirror. usually the things that really yank our chains about other people, their behavior, actions etc. are a reflection of things we do ourselves & when we recognize it it makes us even that much more angry, so our reaction to others is amplified.

Most people blame others because they don't want to face the facts, they want to be free of blame and move on with there lives so they try to get it off on others.

They have an inferiority complex and if they accepted the blame for anything, it would reinforce the inferiority in their own minds making them feel even more worthless.
