On board Diagnostic 2 cars and trucks store codes in memory and have to be cleared using a scan tool P0420 bank 1 cat converter is not working properly that is left hand side on chevy. Means your Converter shows bad when the down stream o2 sensor checks it. In rare incidents the two o2 sensors if replaced might help keep the converter from showing as bad. If you clear the code and it comes back you must fix something.

there is two ways...this is the simplest cause you don't have to reset the stereo etc...in the fuse box locate the ecm fuse...pull it out for a minute then replace it...be sure there is not 2 or 3 fuses marked this way...if so pull each one. The other method is to remove the battery negative cable for a minute...but this will cause you to lose the memory in your radio etc....but either way works.
