I have to agree with one answer who stated DO NOT DO a show tune from that show, unless directed to do so,,,as you did indicate was the direction. Relax...
I'll assume that the people who audition you, have as much, or more experience, than I do, and want only to judge your range and stage presence. Relax...
In case it becomes an issue of you doing a SOLO, PLEASE recall that it was often CHORUS, and rarely was/is anyone so defined as an American Idol, that they will be noticed. Relax...
I have no idea of your range or what placing you might be in if chosen,,, IE: Soprano, etc. but I suggest, you relax, sing efforlessly, know every word, and inflection, and Relax.
Once you become a headliner,,, Diva,,, world renowned, you can demand Chocolate Ice Cream, flown in, or Caviar at a specific temperature be delivered fresh, nightly, to your dressing room, but for now,,,Relax...
In any singing role rehearsal, you'll also be allowed to "MARK" depending on the rehearsal and performance schedule,,, and at any other time,,,RELAX...
Do you ingest or do anything NOW when singing? in the shower, in the hall at school, in front of MOM or DAD? Relax....
My final note is,,,"Do your best, certainly,,,BUT do not take rejection as a personal attack."
Remember this, if nothing else. THIS is not about YOU,,,it is however, about the show, being the best IT can be.

Well some vocal exercises help a LOT. One is saying Ah, starting at your highest pitch, then lowering it. You could also say I-I love to sing in different pitches. Or deep in the bottom of the sea. Using a piano or keyboard helps with these. Then practice singing. I do this stuff every day i have chorus. It doesn't help me too much, but it helps.

Musical's about Acting,Singing and Dancing!
so do some warm up on your voice, and also stretch yourself a bit ya.. avoid stuff that makes your throat dry or flemy, that one you have to find it out for yourself cuz it works differently for different people, dont drink cold drinks too.. all the best!

Keep hydrated. Drink lots of water. Avoid hairspray, perfume, spray deoderants, etc. They dry out your throat.
And NEVER audition with a song from the show you're going for. Learn a song from the show, but don't audition with it. Sing something else and then if they ask you if you have another song then sing the one from the show.
That's the best advice I have!
